Lamka, 14 March 2025: The Zomi Mothers' Association (ZMA), in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), organised a Legal Awareness Programme at Khominthang, New Lamka. Sponsored by the Manipur State Legal Services Authority, the event aimed to educate the public on fundamental legal rights and responsibilities.
The programme featured key presentations, including a session on the Rule of Law by Advocate Thanglianmung, a member of the Zomi Council Legal Department, followed by an interactive discussion. Another session, led by Man Jewel of the Zomi Council Legal Department, focused on the Rights, Duties, and Responsibilities of Indian Citizens. Participants also engaged in discussions on the implications of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) under President’s Rule and its legal context.
The keynote address underscored the role of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) in implementing legal services programmes at the district level. As part of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), with State Legal Services Authorities (SALSAs) functioning at the state level, the DLSA primarily handles cases related to service matters and injury claims.
