AFSPA Enforced in Manipur for Six Months, 13 Police Stations Left Out

New Delhi, 30 March 2025 – The Ministry of Home Affairs has declared the entire state of Manipur as a ‘disturbed area’ under the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA), 1958. This decision follows a review of the law and order situation in the state.

However, 13 police stations across five districts have been excluded from this declaration. In Imphal West, the excluded police stations are Imphal, Lamphel, City, Singjamei, Patsoi, and Wangoi. In Imphal East, the police stations of Porompat, Heingang, and Irilbung are not covered under AFSPA. Thoubal district has one excluded police station, Thoubal, while Bishnupur district has Bishnupur and Nambol. Kakching district has Kakching police station excluded from the order.

This declaration will remain in effect for six months from 1 April 2025 unless withdrawn earlier. Piyush Goyal, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, issued the notification.
