New Delhi, 17 January 2025: Today, for the first time, the Kuki-Zo Council (KZC), which is the apex body and the political platform of the Kuki-Zo, met the officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) at the Ashoka Hotel in New Delhi.
AK Mishra, interlocutor, and Rajesh Kamble, Jt. Director of IB NE, represent the MHA, and from the Kuki-Zo Council side, Pu Henlianthang Thanglet, Chairman KZC; Pu Ajang Khongsai, Coordinator Governing Body KZC; Pu Richard Hmar, Finance Secretary KZC; and Pu Ginza Vualzong, Spokesperson KZC were the delegates.
As it was the maiden meeting with the Govt of India, the delegates of the Kuki-Zo Council introduced KZC to the MHA officials in terms of what KZC is about, its constituent bodies, activities, and demands.
The KZC delegates emphasize the need for quick political dialogue for a solution in Manipur. It urges the government to initiate political talks as soon as possible. They also assert that the Kuki-Zo Council demand is in tandem with the demand submitted by the KNO/UPF for a Union Territory under Article 239A of the Indian Constitution.
The MHA official insists on peace before a solution. The KZC delegates retort that cessation of violence has to be done from both sides, and the government needs to urge the Meitei community to restrain from attacking the Kuki-Zo. The MHA and KZC officials discuss different matters over 1 and a half hours.
