The PADMANABHASWAMY TEMPLE, located in Trivandrum, Kerala, is an ancient and revered temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu, specifically in his form as Lord Anantha, an avatar of Vishnu. This remarkable temple features a unique depiction of the deity in a reclining posture, known as the “Sleeping Deity,” which can be viewed through three intricately carved gates, each showcasing the exquisite artistry of traditional Kerala architecture.
Constructed by the kings of Travancore, the
temple holds deep cultural and spiritual significance, and its name, Thiruvananthapuram, literally means “The
Land of Lord Anantha”. Visitors are often captivated by the temple’s
grandeur and the sense of devotion that permeates the atmosphere.
However, it is important to note that only Kerala
dhotis are permitted for visitors inside the temple, which I unfortunately
missed. My visit on October 29, 2024, was indeed an eye-opener, as it
highlighted not only the beauty of the temple but also the cultural practices
that enrich the experience of worship in this sacred space.
Here are some glimpses of the pics from the journey
