ITAC HAS MADE A FIRM DECISION NOT TO ACCEPT ANY COLLECTIVE NOMENCLATURE OR NARRATIVE OTHER THAN " KUKI-ZOMI-HMAR (KZH)"
Yesterday, October 5, 2024, a meeting of Zo United was held in the YMA Hall in Lamka, with 27 constituent bodies under Zo United in attendance. The future of Zo United and whether the constituent bodies intended to keep Zo United or rename and upgrade to Kuki-Zo Council were among the topics on the agenda.
The Indigenous Tribes Advocacy Committee (ITAC), representing the tribal communities of Pherzawl and Jiribam districts, submitted a letter on September 4, 2024, outlining its position on the future of the Kuki-Zomi-Hmar people. Among its key points, ITAC firmly expressed to Zo United that the name "ZO UNITED" should remain unchanged. Furthermore, ITAC emphasized that the collective term "Kuki-Zomi-Hmar" must always be used to represent all Zohnathlak communities in Manipur. The committee has made it clear that it will not accept any alternative collective nomenclature or narrative other than "Kuki-Zomi-Hmar."
ITAC shall not accept any deviation from the above stands. Identity and nomenclature cannot be imposed by number of votes. Any dissenting voices opposing the above stand points shall hold no sway in dictating ITAC's unwavering commitment to serving the best interests of our people.
