Pu Tete @ Thangjalam Touthang, lived in one of the first houses to be attacked in the New Lambulane locality of Imphal on the evening of May 3rd, 2023. A violent Meitei mob stormed his home, armed with iron rods, machetes and sticks. In a desperate attempt to protect his family and buy them time to escape, Pu Tete bravely stood his ground. He fought back, enduring a brutal beating, yet miraculously survived, though the injuries left his body forever impaired.
In the aftermath, he sought treatment, traveling frequently to Nagaland and to local hospitals in Kanggui. Despite some recovery, his health never fully returned. For a time, he even volunteered as a village defender, standing watch over his community. However, his condition worsened again, and he found himself in and out of treatment.
Today, we mourn his heartbreaking loss. Pu Tete's life was a testament to courage, love, and sacrifice. He fought not just for his own survival but for the safety of those he loved. His spirit, though gone, remains with us.
