Zomi Students' Federation Meets Union Minister Shri (Dr) Mansukh Mandaviya at Lamka
11th August 2024: The Zomi Students' Federation (ZSF) General Headquarters today met with Honourable Shri (Dr) Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, and Union Minister for Labour and Employment, at 11:00 AM. During the meeting at the Deputy Commissioner Conference Hall, Mini Secretariat, Lamka, the ZSF voiced critical concerns affecting the Zo ethnic tribes and the student community.
The ZSF submitted a detailed petition to the Hon'ble Union Minister addressing several pressing issues. Central to their concerns was the state of education in the region. The petition highlighted the urgent need for addressing recruitment issues within educational institutions, particularly the barriers that students face in accessing fair educational and employment opportunities. The ZSF also pointed out the absence of an Online Examination Centre (OEC) in the hill region, which poses significant challenges for students in accessing digital resources and participating in competitive exams, thereby hindering their academic and professional advancement.
Another key issue raised was the functioning of government institutions, with a specific focus on the Transport Office. The ZSF expressed concerns over the inefficiencies with the office, which have negatively impacted the daily lives of the people in the region, especially in terms of mobility and access to essential services.
The petition also highlighted the violation of Scheduled Tribe (ST) reservations in employment and admissions within the state. The ZSF argued that such violations undermine the rights of the Zomi community and other marginalised tribal groups, calling for immediate corrective measures to ensure that ST reservation policies are implemented fairly and just.
The ZSF's meeting with the Hon'ble Minister, Shri Mansukh Mandaviya marks an important step in advocating for the rights and needs of the Zomi community and its kindred tribes. The Federation remains hopeful that the Union Minister will take swift and effective action on the issues presented, paving the way for positive change in the region.
