Pu Thangkhangin Ngaihte, Visionary Zomi leader and Co-founder of the Zomi National Congress (ZNC) passed away in Delhi around 3 pm.
About Pu Thangkhangin:
Born into the Sonna Ngaihte Clan, Pu Thangkhangin was one of the first Manipur-born Zomi scholar and visionary.
Having received his degree of Master's in Philosophy (mphil) at the Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi, he was at the fore in fighting the dual battle of decolonizing imposed colonial names, and battling dialect or clan-based tribalism among the Zomis, especially in Manipur.
He along with Pu T. Gougin co-founded the Zomi National Congress which later became the forerunner for the various branches of the Zo Movement, like Zo Reunification Organization (ZoRO), and later the Zomi Reunification Organization (ZRO), and is said to have been instrumental in organising the First World Zomi Convention (19–21 May 1988) at Champhai in Mizoram, India.
