Manipur: Committee on Tribal Unity (COTU) expresses discontentment

In a Protest held Today at Leikop, Kangpokpi District, womenfolk expresses discontentment against the brutal murder of the two Kuki-Zo on 20th November.

The two innocent villagers were killed by disguised insurgents donning state forces camouflage, armed with sophisticated weapons.

Womenfolk raise slogans such as "We demand CBI inquiry", "We are no longer safe in Manipur", "Expedite political solution for the Kuki-Zo," and "We want Justice".

The suspects in the murder of the two deceased are the same group of disguised insurgents that killed three Kuki-Zo on 12th September. Videos and image of them celebrating a feast after committing the crime is available in public domain.

If any Kuki-Zo can be arrested on grounds of mere suspicion without any concrete evidence, then those suspects deserves immediate conviction. Our trust in the law is waning and if this system goes any longer, it will be a mockery to our democratic & constitutional values. Honb'le Prime Minister must not let the minorities be a mere sacrificial lamb for the majority community.

The Union government must think beyond electoral politics and look into the sentiments of the minorities. As our patience is running out, the constant subjugation will only lead to unwanted consequences in the coming days.

Besides, the Committee had been imposing economic blockade along the two National highways I,e. NH-2 & NH-37. The economic blockade will lapse after five days i,e on 28th November and the Union Home Ministry must look into the following matters.

1. The non-reciprocity on essential items and medical supplies from valley to Kuki-Zo areas- Lamka, Tengnoupal & Kanggui

2. The biased resettlement of displaced Meiteis in Kuki-Zo areas.

3. The selective security protection for Meitei farmers.

4.The constitutional breach of diverting tribal developmental funds.

5. The non-response of our demands for political separation.
