CONDEMNATION

The Joint Unau Tribal Students’ Forum Delhi (JUTSFD) express our profound condemnation and dismay over the heinous and inhumane act that has occurred wherein a large Meitei mob paraded two Kuki-Zomi-Hmar-Mizo tribal women naked towards a paddy field to be gang-raped. This happened on the fateful day of May 4, 2023 in B. Phainom village, Kangpokpi District after the village was burnt down and two men - one middle-aged and another a teenager - were brutally beaten to death by the mob.
The gravity of this crime has deeply affected the victims and their families, as well as the Kuki-Zomi-Hmar-Mizo community at large. The perpetrators have not only committed the crime but also decided to share the video, which shows the identity of the victims, on social media. Such acts of violence and disregard for human life and dignity is utterly unacceptable and have no place in a civilized society.
We stand united in our commitment to upholding the principles of justice, safety, and respect for one another.
In light of this incident, we urge the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation to bring those responsible to justice swiftly. The perpetrators must be held accountable for their actions, and the legal system must demonstrate that such behavior will not be tolerated.
