3 member Judicial Commission visits Lamka

Lamka 14 July 2023: The Chairperson, Judicial Inquiry Commission on Manipur Violence, Justice Ajai Lamba, had a meeting with representatives of several Lamka-based civil society bodies from the Zomi Council, Zomi Students' Federation, Joint Students' Body Lamka, Zomi Mothers' Association and others. The meeting emphasized the need for a fair and impartial judicial inquiry into alleged cases of human rights violations, instances of state complicity and the factors and causes of the ethnic violence in Manipur which has claimed more than 140 lives and 50,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).  

Justice Lamba highlighted the need for community cooperation for the Commission to deliver its mandate and assured that the Commission will execute its duties in all its fairness and integrity. Stressing that the Commission will consider all submissions and representations from individuals and organizations through proper channel only, he mentioned the current challenges of the Commission due to the ongoing curfew in many parts of the state. 

Zomi Students Federation (ZSF) also made a submission to the Commission on the causes and factors leading to 3rd May violence and its aftermath. 

The meeting was attended by Shri Devesh Deval, IAS, Commissioner, Government of Manipur who is also the Member Secretary to the Commission, Shri Dharun Kumar S, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Churachandpur and Karthik Malladi, IPS, SP, Churachandpur.
