AIZAWL, JUNE 15: Today, the Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) General Headquarters in Aizawl held a meeting with the All Mizoram Manipuri Association (AMMA) at their headquarters to discuss the suffering of the Kuki-Zomi-Mizo people in Manipur. The meeting was chaired by MZP President Pu Lalnunmawia Pautu, while the six-member AMMA delegation was led by their President Pu Wahengbam Gopeshore. AMMA explained the contents of their memorandum to the President of India through the Mizoram Governor, and both groups discussed the initiatives they have taken.
MZP and AMMA resolved that the Meitei leadership should take all necessary steps to alleviate the suffer
ing of the Kuki-Zomi-Mizo tribals in Manipur and should also meet with the Union Home Minister and the Chief Minister of Manipur.
MZP urged AMMA to fulfil its responsibility as a Manipuri organization in the ongoing conflict in Manipur, stating, "It is very difficult for us to simply watch the suffering of our people (Kuki-Zomi-Mizo) in Manipur while you enjoy freedom and security in our own state, Mizoram. You must take initiative directed towards a better outcome, as the worst thing can also happen to you. In order to prevent the same thing that is being done to the Zo people (Mizo-Kuki-Zomi) in Manipur from happening to you in Mizoram, you must promptly do whatever you can to de-escalate the situation." The MZP added, "We will monitor your undertakings."
The meeting concluded by deciding to brief and analyse the initiatives of the All Mizoram Manipuri Association in the near future.
It is important to note that Manipur has been riling under ethnic unrest since May 3 where Zo-Kuki people including ethnic Mizos have been targetted in Manipur. Although it has been portrayed as a Kuki-meitei conflict, All Zo tribes including the tiny Mizo Minority in Imphal has been terrorised with their properties looted and vanadlaized. According to sources from Mizos that fled from Imphal, the attack on the Zo people began on May 3 and was also carried out to Mizo establishment and people in Imphal since May 4, all Mizos in Imphal has fled the state.
