A hectic football schedule in Churachandpur means the Zou Gal Memorial Shield 2023 is commencing just 8 days after the final match of the much fan-fare Zomi Nam Ni Platinum Jubilee Cup 2023 at Lamka Public Ground, Hiangtam Lamka, Churachandpur.

A managers' meeting for Zou Gal Memorial Shield 2023 was convened forenoon today at Zou Gal Memorial Hall, Zoveng, Zenhang Lamka wherein, draws of pool were held and conduct rules of the tournament were deliberated. The tournament is jointly organized by Zou Gal Memorial Shield Committee (ZMSC) in collaboration with Churachandpur District Sports' Association (CDSA) with 24 teams affiliated under CDSA and ZMSC taking part in the tournament.

 These 24 teams are grouped into 8 different pools with each pool containing 3 teams each. After group-stage, two highest-ranked teams from each pool will progress through to the knock-out round.

The tournament's curtain-raiser match is scheduled on 23rd February, 2023 where in, Niangzen Trophy 2019 winners FC Zotal take on ZYO Tuining for the tournament's opener. Each matchday of group-stage will feature three matches while knock-out round will feature two matches each matchday. Champions of the tournament will receive cash incentive of Rs. 1,50,000/- while runners-up receive Rs. 80,000/- and the two beaten semi-finalists walking away with Rs. 5,000/-.

Zou Gal Memorial Shield 2015 edition was won by Bungmual YC while Ganggam Soccer Club were winners of Centenary edition of 2017 but last edition's tournament was confined only for UZO Blocks and so, it was won by UZO Kamdou Veng.
