AIR NEWS KOHIMA, 11 February, 2023. A total of 183 candidates from 12 political parties and independent candidates will be contesting in the state general election, which is scheduled on February 27. Addressing a press conference yesterday evening, Chief Electoral Officer Nagaland, V Shashank Shekhar informed that with the withdrawal of 16 candidature and one declared uncontested from the total 200 contesting candidates, 183 candidates including four women candidates will now be contesting for the ensuing state election. He also informed that 25 nomination papers were rejected during the scrutiny. He said, BJP candidate Kazheto Kinimi was elected unopposed from 31-Akuluto Assembly Constituency, after his lone opponent and Congress candidate Khekashe Sumi withdrew his candidature yesterday, which is also the last date of the withdrawal of candidature.
He said, three Assembly constituencies namely 6- Tening, 39 Sanis, 45 Tehok have highest contesting candidates with six each.
The Political Party that are in fray include the NDPP-40, BJP-20, NPF-22,Congress-23, NCP-12, NPP-12, LJP( Ram Vilas) -15, RPI(Athawale) -9, JD(U)-7 RJD-3, RPP-1, CPI-1, and Independents-19.
