Imphal, 13th June, 2022 (DIPR) — With the initiative of All Manipur Scientific Farmers’ Association in collaboration with the Government of Manipur, Fishery Department today procured around 4500 fingerlings of local Sareng (wallago attu) to Imphal from Kolkata.
Speaking to media, All Manipur Scientific Farmer Association President Premananda Meitei said that with the initiative taken by the Association in collaboration with the State Fishery Department, local Sareng fingerlings have started arriving in Manipur. The aim of procurement of Sareng fingerlings is to make self-sufficient in production and make available in plenty to the consumers. He said that more such fingerlings are expected to arrive on Sunday. Local Sareng fingerlings, imported from Kolkata today, will be started rearing in ponds of Phokbakchao, Imphal West District. It is expected that with the arriving of local Sareng fingerlings, the local Sareng fish produce would be sufficient for consumption in future.
