Mr Ginlunthang elected as TTO President

LAMKA, OCT 25, 2020 – The Thangkhals in Manipur have elected their "President".

The Thangkhal Tribe Organisation (TTO) General Assembly cum Presidential Election 2020 have been conducted at S. Geltui Village, Singhat Sub-division, Churachandpur, Manipur on October 23, 2020.

Two candidates namely, Mr Thangsuanmuan and Mr Ginlunthang contested for the post of President of Thangkhal Tribe Organisation.

"Out of 135 votes, Mr Ginlunthang got 70 votes while Mr Thangsuanmuan got 63 votes. Two votes are invalid," as declared by Mr Ginsuanlal, Election Commissioner, TTO on the same day.

According to the Electoral Roll List prepared by the Election Commission, there are 185 votes including All Thangkhal Chiefs, and Ex-Presidents of TTO (TPO), TYO, and TSP.

Mr John K. Ngaihte, President, Zomi Council, Manipur, Dr TK Mang, President, Paite Tribe Council (PTC), Mr Vanlallian, President, Zomi Students Federation (ZSF), and Mr SN John, President, Zillai (Vaiphei Students' Association) graced the occasion.

The elected president is set to form the complete executive body (cabinet) within 14 days from the announcement of result. The tenure office is of three years.

Thangkhal is a distinctive community which have their own dialect, custom and tradition. They have their own traditional attires.

They have their own social organs such as Thangkhal Youth Organsiation (TYO), Thangkhal Sinlai Pawlpi (TSP/Students Wing), and Thangkhal Baptist Church.

The Thangkhals are seeking "tribe recognition". However, the Government of Manipur has not recognized till date.
