IMPHAL, JULY 30, 2020 --- At least three Indian Army soldiers were killed and five were injured after a group of militants ambushed them on Thursday night at 100 km south of Imphal near the Myanmar border, reported news agency ANI.
According to media reports, the Indian Army had launched an area domination patrol at Khongtal, Chandel District in Manipur. The patrolling party was attacked by the insurgents who detonated an IED and opened fired at them.
"The terrorists first carried out an IED blast and then fired at the troops. Reinforcements have been rushed to the area which is 100 km from Imphal," ANI quoted.
From a reliable sources 3 personnels of 4 Assam Rifles namely: 1) YM Konyak from Nagaland, 2) Ratan Salam from Kakching, Manipur and 3) P Kalita from Assam died and 5 personnel of 4 Assam Rifles Subedar Haokip, Havildar N Sharma, Rifleman Anish Kumar, Rifleman Sandeep and Naik Sikendra Army were injured.
A police team from Chakpi PS will be leaving for Khongtal shortly. More details awaited.
