A Brief Update of NEWAK Works in Bangalore

BENGALURU, MAY 21, 2020 --- For the last 43 days, we have reach out to family, groups and individuals and total members of 1076 (Detail will be given on final report).

Today, many NE-People are helpless in Cities and several incidents faced by our NE-People yet nothing much has been done so far or taken action.

For this, every Society/Union/NGO's from NE-8-States existing in Bangalore who have been tirelessly helping their own members in best possible ways since then, however, still many are yet to reach out and we have been receiving several calls for help since many don't know how to reach out their respective State Leaders or their community leaders.

The reason is, Bangalore City is big and many NE-People are not working in main City rather in remote places.

As a NEWAK, we are dealing with only some left over and we truly give credit and appreciate to all those Society/Unions leaders/Volunteers. Well, brief reports of last three weeks are given below...

Pick up & Dropping:

1. Mr. ABITU: Picking from Airport International and kept in Hennur for two weeks. And finally drop him to his work place again.

2. Mr. AVITOU: Pick up from JAYA NAGAR Hostel and drop him to Kothunur

3. Ms. EPI: pick from Narayanapura and kept in Hennur Cross

4. Mr. H. GINLIAN: pick up from Hennur and drop him to PALACE ground.

Besides these, several meetings were held and discuss issues and challenges faced by our Ne-people with higher authorities.

Salary & Accommodation Issue:

1. Settled two cases of jobs and accommodation

Financial Status:

As far as the finance is concerned, we've received total amount of Rs. 64540/- from well-wisher during this lockdown and regarding the expenses, Rs. 37,850/- (Bill Attached) was spent so far for Petrol for delivery essential commodities, pick up & droping, running after cases and other miscellaneous for the last 44 days; so still we have balance of Rs. 26,690/- (Twenty Six Thousand Six Hundred & Ninety Rupees). The remaining money will be utilised for transportation of delivery rations and other miscellaneous; this will not be used for other purposes as of now.

A big thanks to all the donors; without their support, it will be very challenging for NEWAK team to maintain Petrol, handling crisis and other miscellaneous expenses. God bless everyone who generously contributed. 

Major Issues at hand:

1. Many Ne-people are not able to pay their House Rent now and in dilemma since they can't work and earn now. Many are going through rough times.

2. Many are jobless now. Some were asked to quit jobs too when they asked their pending salaries from the Company.

Challenges:

1. So far, some Landlords/House Owners started deducting from Security deposit money and ask the tenants to vacate their house if they can't pay.

2. Many companies are in huge lost today due to lockdown; as per information we've received, many of our NE- employees were asked to quit their jobs and find others after lockdown since some companies don't require much people to work now.

My other concern is, what if the Landlords/House owners ask Tennants who can't pay the House Rent to vacate and go after lockdown, or those companies who keep their staffs in accommodation to go after lockdown or those who are in shelter home; where these people will go if they want to continue to stay in Bangalore? Let's not be panic but mentally prepared and ready to find alternative ways to help those in need...Let's continue to pray for the situation.

3. To those who are able, try to help people; there is always inner joy and happiness when we truly help people in need. This is about humanity.

Friends, let's all join hands to pressurize and request the NE-8-States Government to come forward and help stranded citizens from NE-States. Worriness & tension will not bring anything rather we should find ways to survive and seek for solutions. God is able!
