PRESS STATEMENT ON ZOMI NATIONAL ALTAR
The 18th March, 2019

As the Zomi Council (the apex body of nine Zomi tribes) has been relentlessly pursuing peace and reconciliation, it is heartening to know that notable Zomi Church leaders are going to organise the first ever Zomi National Altar on March 21, 2019. The Church being moral custodians and stewards of Christian principles protecting and preserving our private and public lives from degeneration, the Zomi Council heartily supports the initiative for spiritual and moral restoration of our people as an individual and as nation.

In this regard, the Zomi Council would like to appeal Zomi across different parts of the world to reckon the Zomi National Altar as sacred and attend the program where corporate altars are organised and hold individual prayer vigils in our own settings where corporate altars are not available. The Council also would like to appeal one and all to remind ourselves of our primary mission to protect, preserve, propagate and defend the unity and integrity of Zomi to realize the dream of 'One Nation under God'.

Let us remember that it was God alone that has brought together our splintered tribes and instil in us the spirit of unity and brotherhood enabling us to dream and endeavour for a better future. We have met challenges and mountains of obstacles that often seek to destroy our unity, dismantle the fruits of our laborious effort for decades and derail our journey to a better future, but we have overcome them all. We may have travelled thus far, but we still have a long way to go in perfecting our unity as a nation. The adversaries we often faced have taught us lessons, time and again, that only in God and in the spirit and practice of unity lies our future as a people.

Therefore, the Zomi Council appeal to leaders and individuals to retrospect and thank God for the great things He had done; make amends where mistakes are committed; reaffirm our unity of purpose; recommit to realize our dream; and earnestly seek God to help us renew ourselves in spirit, restore us and heal our land.

With earnest prayers,

Sd/-
