Gurgaon, Nov 28, 2014 – Shri Surinder Singh, recently appointed as the Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) and Nodal Officer for the North-East (NE) community in Gurgaon, met with representatives from the North East Support Centre and Helpline (NESCH) and village elders of Sikendarpur to address concerns regarding the safety and security of the NE community.
During the meeting, the NESCH team highlighted
various challenges faced by NE residents in Gurgaon, emphasizing concerns
related to safety, security, and discrimination. In response, Singh assured the
group that he would personally inspect areas with a significant NE population
to address any safety issues effectively.
“We have also requested a meeting with officials
at Sector 29 Police Station to further discuss these concerns,” stated members
of the NESCH team.
As a gesture of collaboration, the village elders
proposed organizing a “North-East Festival” to encourage cultural exchange
between locals and NE residents, believing that such an event would foster
unity and mutual understanding.
“I am newly posted here and will prioritize
inspections in Sikendarpur and Chakkarpur, where a significant number of NE
residents live,” assured DCP Singh, reaffirming his commitment to the cause.
The meeting was attended
by four members of the NESCH team, including Thangminlen Hangshing, Matthew
Kamei, Edward Kamsiantung Zou, and Bruce K. Thangkhal (Media Incharge), along with seven
local village elders. The discussion laid the foundation for future engagement
between the NE community and local authorities.
