Namchi, Aug 5, 2014: The finals of the Inter-Departmental League Football Tournament, organized by the South District Government Driver’s Association (SDGDA), took place at the Veterinary Playground in Namchi on Tuesday (Aug 5).
The team from the Sports and Youth Affairs Department triumphed over the Rural Management & Development Department (RMDD) with a score of 2-nil. The event was graced by Mr. Binod Rai, Advisor to the PHE Department, who served as the Chief Guest, alongside Zilla Adhakshya (South) Mr. C.L. Gurung, ADM (South) Mr. Kapil Meena, SDM (HQ) Mr. Samdup Bhutia, ADC (Dev) Mrs. Benu Gurung, and various officials and nodal heads from government departments, as well as members of the public from Namchi and surrounding areas.
The tournament began on July 21, featuring 12 participating teams from departments including DAC/Land Revenue, UD & HD, Roads & Bridges, Buildings & Housing, Forests, Power, PHE, Agriculture & Horticulture, HRDD, Health, RMDD, and Sports and Youth Affairs.
In his address to the gathering, Chief Guest Mr. Rai praised the organizing committee for hosting such significant sporting events, which foster a friendly atmosphere among different government departments and encourage employees to connect with colleagues outside their own teams.
He emphasized the importance of participating in such energetic matches, highlighting that these events not only provide entertainment but also serve as an ideal means of maintaining fitness and health. Mr. Rai encouraged both young and old to actively engage in sports, noting that it can lead to a holistic transformation in daily life, breaking the monotony of routine.
Diwakar from the RMDD team was awarded the title of Man of the Match, while the Agriculture & Horticulture team received the award for Best Disciplined Team. At the conclusion of the tournament, the Chief Guest presented the Runners-Up Trophy, the Winner’s Trophy, and a cash prize to the victorious team.
