IMPHAL, July 25, 2014: Manipur assembly on Friday unanimously passed a private member resolution on upgrading the premier hospital of the state— Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) — to the status of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
The private member resolution was jointly moved by ruling Congress legislators L Nandakumar and Dr Ng Bijoy in the House. They also detailed on how the RIMS was set up. The two MLAs said the state hospital has been highly regarded by the country as a good medical institute.
They said RIMS should be upgraded to the status of AIIMS and in this regard, they sought support from all the legislators in passing the private member resolution.
Dr I Ibohalbi with all the opposition leaders supported the proposal for passing the private member resolution.
Manipur Health Minister Phungzathang Tonsing said that it was the right time to upgrade RIMS to the status of AIIMS and supported the resolution. [NNN]
