Lamka, June 27, 2014: The body of Tunkhopum Baite, the founder of the Chin Liberation Army (CLA), was laid to rest in his native village, Panglian, on June 25, 48 years after his death. Baite was reportedly killed by Mizo National Front (MNF) guerrillas on February 5, 1967, and his body was initially buried in the MNF Tuichang Camp in Champhai district. His remains were recently discovered in a forest near the Tuichang River along the Manipur-Mizoram border. An expedition team, including Mr. Vungthan (Ex-CLA), Mr. Zaihrila (Ex-MNF), and Mr. Ginkhenpau, located the site where Baite had been buried following his execution. The burial was attended by various leaders, family, friends, and well-wishers, who paid their tributes.
