VISA Office in Manipur to be open within 1 year

Imphal, May 23 2013[e-pao] --- In order to convenience to overseas travellers, a VISA office will be opened in Manipur within this year, said Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam,  yesterday at a function.

He was speaking at the flagging off ceremony of Mission Myanmar, a triagular effort of Myanmar Government, Smile Train Inc, USA and Shija Hospitals, Imphal.

As part of the mission, a medical team of Shija Hospitals will conduct free cleft lip and cleft palate corrective surgeries at Monywa, Myanmar from May 24 to May 28 .

The medical team comprises of six doctors, two nurses, two OT technicians and two para-medical staff.

Speaking as chief guest, Gaikhangam said that apart from opening a VISA office in Manipur, the State Government is also planning to give necessary training to staff concerned to issue passports.

Saying that he had visited Moreh to find out the ways to develop Moreh as a model border town, Gaikhangam also mentioned about the need to develop Namphalong as a major commercial area.

He however said that there is need to take permission from the Centre regard the matter.

Saying that it is unfortunate that Imphal-Moreh road is being used as a route for black marketing by some individuals, Gaikhangam said the State must put in effort to reap maximum benefit from India Government's Look East Policy.

Although, the Centre has been projecting Imphal-Moreh road as a major route for trade and commerce between India and Myanmar, the State is yet to get the desired benefits from Central Government's plan.

No matter the State is getting the opportunity of being developed as a major transit point for trade and commerce between the two neighbouring countries late, the opportunity would however prove beneficial to the people of the State, he added.

He also extended best wishes to the team of Myanmar Mission for a great success.

Guest of honour of the function, Commerce and Industries Minister K Govindas while delivering his speech said that Myanmar Mission is a postive move towards betterment of ties between the two countries.

He also said that the mission will mark 'Nongpok Thong Hangba' (opening of eastern corridor), which was predicted in Puya (ancient Meitei manuscipt) .

Shija Hospitals Managing Director Dr Kh Palin was the president of the function.
