Tears leave no room for doubt (Real Life story based in Delhi)

LOVE might have sordid tales when it broke or dwindled away. Two young ladies—Lily and Reena—the former is family’s breadwinner while the latter is an aspiring bank officer. Both were from a Christian family. Lily arrived in Delhi having no friends to accommodate her. Reena shared her room, they lived somewhere in south Delhi.

Both are graduates. Lily worked as sales executive in Gurgaon whereas Reena prepares for banking exams. Lily sends her little savings to her parents. Reena, a daughter of well-to-do family, whom her family regularly sends Rs 10K per month. However, Lily and Reena love each other like twin sisters.

Few months ago, Lily came into contact with a smart guy, whom she later fallen in love. The love bird frequently visited her every holiday. The lover boy is an engineer working in Noida. The trio had dined together frequently. For the girls, he’s like a real brother. The brother-boy helped the duo in many ways. He is very much a part of their life.

As days passed by, an ill-fate struck Lily—her dad and mom—died all of a sudden, leaving behind three beautiful daughters. The eldest, suffering from Leukemia, is bed-ridden for half a decade. The youngest is a nursery teacher earning less than four-figure salary. Life drastically changed after the death of their earthly gods. Lily was inconsolable for many days. Reena finds several means and ways to make her friend happy.

There was a shop where Reena bought their daily needs. Over a period of time, Reena and Raju, the shop owner developed friendly relations. Reena purchased dozens of clothes and utensils during Christmas season.  Sometimes she took in due and sold at home, she cleared her dues once she returned back. Uncle Raju and Reena trusted each other since 2007. Lily soon followed the footsteps of her friend. The shop became their canteen. Gradually, uncle Raju also trusted Reena and her boyfriend.

After some time, Lily thought of leaving her best friend so that she could stay independently. They haven’t fought nor quarreled each other under the same roof. They departed as Lily wished. However, their love doesn’t fade away. The duo still keeps in touch.

In 2009 when Christmas was around the corner, Reena and Lily visited uncle’s shop. Reena bought few clothes. Lily, this time, took as many as she can in due payment. She promised to pay in the New Year. Lily’s debt was Rs 7K which uncle has also accepted. One fine morning, Lily calls up Reena asking for uncle’s bank account number. Then Reena took it from uncle Raju and texted her in the evening.

There’s good news for Lily, her boyfriend is willing to pay all her debts. She was so happy hearing the sweet words from her own sweetheart. She gave uncle’s account to her boy friend. A sum of Rs 107K was deposited in uncle’s bank account. The guy informed Lily immediately. Then Lily informed uncle Raju that his account has been filled with additional money, which is meant for purchasing a vehicle. Raju says, “Okay, fine”.

Soon after the money has been deposited, Lily’s boyfriend repeatedly requested Raju in order to get his money. Raju could no longer ignore the request so he gave his ATM card to Lily’s BF, a man whom he knew as Lily Bhayya. On the same night, Lily’s BF had withdrawn Rs. 50K from ATM booth. In the morning, Raju, Reena and Lily’s BF took out Rs. 50K by cheque from the Bank.

Later in the evening, a three-member team of investigation along with uncle Raju visited Reena at her residence. She was told the money involved ‘illegal transaction’. Reena was shocked! Shrouded by surprises and fears, she could not utter properly before the officials. She shared everything word by word. After the officials left her, she wept helplessly. She tried several calls to reach the one whom they thought to be their big brother. All her efforts were in vain. Weeping over herself, her mind has begun quarrelling herself throughout the day and night. There was none to comfort her.

In 2009, an innocent guy, Lianpu was grilled by three Bangalore-based sleuths landed in his office in Gurgaon, Haryana to find out the kingpin of ‘account phishing’ operating through internet. This guy gave his ATM card to his native friend, Kimi, who says, she needs money urgently and her parents are going to send through bank account. The ATM card passes on to varied hands. At the end, a couple from Churachandpur in Manipur was on the suspected list. Four Churachandpur ladies were arrested in Jodhpur on sex racket recently. It sent shock waves among the people at home.

See! On April 25, the Hyderabad Police arrested 12 online frauds, including nine Nigerians and three Mizo women from Mizoram’s Capital Aizawl for cheating through online awards. In another similar case, five Nigerians and one Indian man were arrested. On April 30, Delhi Police arrested three Nigerians and one Indian guy for running illegal lottery via SMS and E-mail. Online fakers seemed never ending, and the arrests continue off and on. Beware! Just forward such SMSes or E-mails to delpol@vsnl.com or khaalnou@yahoo.com.

Now a battle sparked-off between uncle Raju and innocent Reena soon after. Raju alleged Reena is associated with Lily and her friend. Once known for his kindness, now things turned topsy-turvy. Raju told her that he has to pay the bank. Raju demanded Reena to pay Rs. 2K per month until it completes the total amount siphoned away from his account. For the past four months she did in fear of her life. Earlier she was demanded Rs. 20K (X2) by uncle Raju to end-up the problem. Raju is still harassing Reena saying he can lodge F.I.R at any time. Reena is now in prisoner’s dilemma. Is Raju right? Why has Reena to pay?

Finally the blame falls on none, other than her lover whom her heart rested on. Jona, a son of a devoted pastor in Manipur is on the run. Lily broke down in tears when she heard. But her tears leave no room for doubt.   [*All names changed].
