NE girl looted by auto-driver in Gurgaon

New Delhi, 12 May 2011: A Manipuri girl in her mid-twenties, hailing from Tamenglong, has been allegedly looted on Wednesday night by an unidentified auto-driver in Islampur Sohna road in Gurgaon district of Haryana, about 50 km away from here. The incident came into light around 12.45am this morning.
The victim (name withheld) has boarded an auto-rickshaw from Rajeev Chowk, Gurgaon to visit her sister who works in private hospital in Sohna road. The victim is working as nurse in Gurgaon, where she stays with her brother. The incident occurred on Wednesday night around 9:00 pm.

Sources said the driver took advantage of her, who was the only passenger at the time. The driver took her in a secluded area and call-up some one. After awhile suddenly three men appeared and they began looting her. The miscreants tried to rape the victim and physically assaulted her. When the victim sought helpless and requested them not to harm her. The four men took away her money (Rs. 6000/-) and her mobile phone. The miscreants sped away quickly from the scene, leaving no time for the victim to glance at the vehicle’s nameplate.

While the victim was walking alone in a deserted road at night, a young Manipuri lad, John Onkholian Zou incidentally came across her. John, surprisingly approached her and talked to her politely. “In the beginning, she was afraid of me. Later she narrated the whole story. She suffered scar marks on her face, neck and back body. Then I took her to our staff quarter where one of our doctors gave her medical treatment,” said John, who works in Pema Health Resort, Gurgaon.

John who helped the victim, said: “After searching contact numbers of his friends and relatives, we at last found her sister’s number. She talked to her sister. Her sister came with ambulance van and took her away around 3am this morning”.

As soon as the message received, this reporter contacted some of the police stations in Gurgaon, the ring goes un attended. The identities of the absconding miscreants could not be ascertained until filing of the report. No First Information Report has been registered with Gurgaon Police.

 Though famous for its magnificient natural surroundings, Sohna, located in the foothills of Arravallis is now considered to be a horrible place for the North-East girls who are working in nearby areas.

The feeling of insecurity among the North-East people in Gurgaon is moving in upward direction. It is the right time for the Gurgaon Police to roll up their sleeves for the safety of women, especially for the North-East in Gurgaon.
